The Elizabethtown Area School District proudly honored 30 local veterans at its 17th annual Veterans Day Ceremony on November 11, 2025. This cherished tradition recognized the steadfast dedication of those who have served and continue to protect our nation, safeguarding the freedoms and values we hold dear.
The ceremony featured a presentation of colors by the high school’s Navy National Defense Cadet Corps program, a student-led invocation and moment of silence, and readings by students on the history of “Taps,” Veterans Day, and a tribute poem.
Elizabethtown Borough Mayor Chuck Mummert presented an official proclamation, followed by heartfelt remarks from Superintendent of Schools Dr. Karen Nell. The high school band also performed stirring musical selections honoring the exceptional valor of the veterans in attendance. The event concluded with a presentation of certificates recognizing each veteran’s service and dedication to our country.
In her remarks, Dr. Nell reflected on the theme of sacrifice, both as the foundation of America’s freedom and as the defining characteristic of those who serve.
“There is no better word I can think of that honors our veterans more than sacrifice. The men and women who comprise our military sacrifice everything to provide each of us with not only a sense of safety and security, but a stable, free democracy,” said Dr. Nell.
More than a tribute, the event offered an educational experience for middle and high school students, highlighting the significance of Veterans Day and the sacrifices made by those who serve. It also provided the broader school community an opportunity to show heartfelt gratitude and respect for our military service members.
The Elizabethtown Area School District extends its sincere appreciation to all veterans for their invaluable service and unwavering commitment. Their courage continues to inspire our community and serves as a powerful reminder of the true meaning of service and sacrifice.
